SYDNEY, 26 December - Sydney Blue Sox pitcher Craig Anderson became the second Sox pitcher this season to be named the Delta Air Lines Pitcher of the Week for his performance on the road against the Jet Couriers Melbourne Aces in Round Eight last week.

On the 20th of December, Anderson turned in a masterful performance, throwing a complete game and allowing just one run in the Blue Sox 5-1 win. The Gosford native scattered eight hits over the nine innings and allowed just one walk with three strikeouts. The complete game was the first he has thrown in his Australian Baseball League, brought to you by 'Be The Influence: Tackling Binge Drinking' career.

"Ando was fantastic for us," Blue Sox manager Jason Pospishil said. "He kept them off balance, threw strikes and it was exactly what we wanted to open up the series."

The left-hander who spent five seasons at the Triple-A level has been strong for Sydney all season, winning each of his last four starts. The 31-year-old has allowed more than two runs on just one occasion and has walked just four batters in 47 1/3 innings pitched this season.

"He's been a very important part of our team this season," Pospishil said. "Chris (Oxpsring) has gotten a lot of deserved attention for the season he's had, but Ando's been one of the top two or three pitchers in the league this year."

Anderson currently sits tied for second in the league with four wins, fourth in the league in ERA at 1.90 and third in the league with his 47 1/3 innings pitched. Anderson joins Oxspring as the second player to be honoured as Pitcher of the Week, after Oxspring earned the award for Rounds One, Two and Four.

Anderson opens up Round Nine action for the Blue Sox when he takes the mound for game one of the four-game series against the Adelaide Bite proudly supported by SA Power Networks on Thursday, 27 December at Blacktown International Sportspark.
