As of today, Perth would earn a trip straight through to the 2013 ABL Championship Series.

SYDNEY, 21 December - The Australian Baseball League presented by 'Be the Influence: Tackling Binge Drinking' has confirmed that both the Sydney Blue Sox and the Canberra Cavalry driven by Rolfe Renault would host at least one playoff game if both teams maintain their current standing in the league.

Coming out of the All-Star break, which represents the halfway point in league play, Canberra are second on the ladder while the Blue Sox sit in third. The teams and league have agreed that if those standings hold, or are inverted, they will split hosting responsibilities for the three-game series in round one of the 2012-13 Be the Influence Australian Baseball League Postseason. The higher-seeded team would boast home field advantage, hosting the first and, if necessary, decisive third games of the series.

This agreement means that the series schedule would run as follows:

  • Friday 1 February: Sydney (Away) @ Canberra (Home)
  • Saturday 2 February: Canberra (Away) @ Sydney (Home)
  • Sunday 3 February: Sydney (Away) @ Canberra (Home) - if required
ABL General Manager Ben Foster said of this year's postseason arrangement, “The goal of this agreement is to ensure Championship quality baseball is available to fans in both markets. There is no substitute for a playoff atmosphere and we are excited about the potential for this agreement to fuel what has become an intriguing rivalry.”
