SYDNEY, 8 November - The Sydney Blue Sox (2-1) host the Brisbane Bandits (0-0) in a three-game series this weekend at Blacktown International Sportspark in Round Two of the Australian Baseball League, brought to you by 'Be The Influence: Tackling Bing Drinking.' The series marks the ABL home-opener for the Blue Sox, with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Blue Sox roll out the same three pitchers they used in last weekend's series against the Canberra Cavalry, in right-hander Chris Oxspring, left-hander Craig Anderson and right-hander Vaughan Harris. Oxspring is the reigning league Pitcher of the Week after going 7 1/3 strong innings in the season-opener, striking out seven and allowing just one run in the Blue Sox 3-2, 10-inning victory.
For the Sox offensively, they will be led by import Zach Penprase who recorded five hits in three games last weekend and also drove in two runs. Third baseman Shane Benson also had a solid opening series, finishing with a batting average of .400 with a run batted in.
For the Bandits, it will be their season-opening series after having their team bye in Round One. They are expected to be led by Josh Roberts, who enters the season one hit shy of 100 career ABL hits, which would make him the first player in league history to accomplish the feat.
"We're looking forward to playing the Bandits because the NSW-Queensland clash is always a good one," Blue Sox manager Jason Pospishil said. "It's hard to gauge their present form because it's their opening round but we know they're going to come in looking to get their season off to a good start. We had a strong opening series and we just have to continue to build off that."
Additionally, Saturday's game will be the featured Game of the Week, which will air on Fox Sports 2 on Thursday, 15 November at 4:00PM AEST.
