Former Canberra Cavalry standout short stop Didi Gregorius has been promoted by the Cincinnati Reds organisation from their AA affiliate Pensacola (Florida) BlueWahoos to their AAA affiliate Louisville (Kentucky) Bats. AAA is just one step away from the Major Leagues.

Didi was the first winner of the ABL's Gold Glove award for being the best defensive player in the league when he played for the Cavalry during the inaugural season. He became a fan favourite because of his skill with the glove, turning just about any ball hit in his direction to an out.

After his time with the Cavalry, Didi's profile with the Reds grew along with his development as a player. He was promoted to AA near the end of last season and many in the organsation saw big things for him. Currently Didi is listed as the number four prospect with the Reds.

Rumors of Didi's promotion were first whispered in the Pensacola News Journal on the 6th of July. Earlier today the BlueWahoos went to twitter to confirm the move, and the Pensacola News Journal posted a story on their website as well.

"We are very happy for Didi," Cavalry General Manager Peter Bishell said. "Didi is a great ballplayer and was a huge star for the Cavalry. It is proof to all baseballers that playing here in Canberra can be a jumping off point for the major leagues."

The Cavalry open their season on 2 November at The Fort against the rival Sydney Blue Sox. Memberships are on sale now. Click here to enlist and see a future major leaguer suit up here in Canberra .
