Canberra slugger Brian Burgamy and Perth right-hander Warwick Saupold have been named Players of the Week for Round Nine after leading their respective teams to series victories. The versatile Burgamy, who has played three different infield positions this season, had 11 hits in 18 at-bats, including three home runs, as the Cavalry swept the Blue Sox. Saupold pitched seven scoreless innings, earning the decision in the Heat's record-setting 25th win of the year.

One of the league's most experienced players, Burgamy is a veteran of 10 professional seasons. He has been a steady presence in the Cavalry lineup all season, providing a consistent bat and fitting in wherever needed, spending time at first, second, and third base. In what was Canberra's most important series of the season, he batted .611 with three home runs, six RBI and four walks as they swept the Blue Sox to leap from fifth place back up to second.

The switch-hitter's biggest game of the series came on Friday night when he went 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three runs scored. He also tallied three other multi-hit games in the series and is now riding a nine-game hitting streak. For the season, Burgamy ranks second in the ABL in batting average and walks, while also placing in the top ten for home runs and runs batted in. He is the fifth Cavalry player to earn Player of the Week honours this season.

Runners up for the batting award included Burgamy's teammate Kody Hightower, Melbourne's Elliot Biddle, Perth's Tim Kennelly, and Sydney's Patrick Maat.

Saupold earned the top pitching recognition for the second time in three weeks and the fifth weekly award overall for a Heat player this season. In Saturday's match-up with the Bandits, he tossed seven scoreless innings, earning the win in Perth's 25th victory of the season, surpassing the high mark they set last year along with the Sydney Blue Sox. It was the fourth scoreless start this year for Saupold, who leads the league with a 1.63 ERA.

In this particular dominant performance, he struck out six while walking three and allowing just four hits. The righty induced two double plays and allowed just five balls to leave the infield, helping himself by keeping the ball on the ground. In addition to ERA, he leads the league with 55.1 innings pitched and a 0.99 WHIP and is tied for second on the Heat with four wins.

Honourable mentions for the pitching award were Canberra's Mike McGuire and Kyle Putnam, Melbourne's Kevin Reese, and Alex Maestri of Brisbane.

In Round Ten, these two award winners will go head-to-head as the second-place Canberra "UberGlobal" Cavalry host the front-running 'Alcohol Think Again' Perth Heat. In other action, the Brisbane Bandits will host the Jet Couriers Melbourne Aces and the Adelaide Bite will visit Sydney to take on the Blue Sox.
