6/11 - Adelaide Again Falls Short
11/06/2011 6:56 PM ET
PERTH - Adelaide Bite finished their Australian Baseball League opening series against Perth Heat without a victory, but again came close in losing the final contest 2-3.

Trailing 1-2 going into the seventh and final inning, Adelaide came right back into the game when Tom Brice belted a long home run to centrefield to tie the scores up.

But as has been the case throughout the series, Perth managed to fight back, when Mitchell Graham hit up the middle to bat in the winning run in the bottom of the final dig.

The Heat took an early 1-0 lead on Graham's home run in the first inning, while Adelaide levelled the contest in the second after Scott Gladstone doubled to score Brice from first base.

In the bottom of the third frame Alex Burg hit a home run to give the home side a 2-1 lead, which stood up until the final inning.

Adelaide starter Paul Mildren did a good job on the mound, pitching five innings for five hits, two walks and five K2s.

Brice was best with the bat for the Bite, picking up three hits and scoring both runs.

This Thursday Adelaide start a home series against Canberra Cavalry at Norwood Oval, at 7pm, with games to follow on Friday (7pm), Saturday (7pm) and Sunday (1pm).
