6/11 - Bite Can't Hold Lead
Drop 1st Game of Doubleheader
11/06/2011 4:11 PM ET
PERTH - It seems Adelaide Bite can not take a trick in Perth, after several rain-delays and now losing a second game to the Heat that was there for the taking, going down 4-7 in Sunday's early clash of an Australian Baseball League double-header.

After leading 4-0 on Saturday night in the top of the third inning, the game was suspended because of the weather, which forced a double-header of seven inning games for Sunday.

In Sunday's first game, a sacrifice fly from Ben Lodge gave the Bite a 1-0 lead in the second inning, with Perth scoring its first run in the third inning to make it 1-1.

Then in the fourth the Adelaide bats came alive, with doubles from James Jones and Tom Brice, as well as RBI singles to Ben Lodge and Mathew Smith, for the Bite to score three runs and lead 4-1.

Perth managed to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap, which led to reliever Chris Lawson taking the hill for Adelaide in the fifth inning.

The Heat took an immediate liking to Lawson, with Alex Burg belting a long home run, then Aaron Baker smashed a two-run shot for Perth to go 6-4 ahead.

Doubles to Allan de San Miguel and James McOwen - who was with the Bite last season - saw the end of Lawson and inning later, but Adelaide did not have any sting in its tail, the final three hitters of the seventh and final inning being struck out.
