Building the Jet Couriers Melbourne Ace Field
10/10/2011 12:33 PM ET

It is starting to look like baseball season in Melbourne, and not just because the weather is changing for the better, but because The Jet Couriers Melbourne Aces field is being built!

The Aces are making some big improvements on the field from last year. The Aces were fortunate enough to get a grant from the Australian government to put in new turf in the infield. And this year, instead of having just cut outs, there will be running lanes that will make the field look more professional and make for better baseball.

Homeplate was pushed back roughly 15 ft, which not only makes the field larger, but also brings the action closer to the fans. Members will be able to call balls and strikes right alongside the umpire.

The new field dimensions are 320 ft down the left field line, 400 ft to center and 285 ft down the right field line.

The big blue wall will once again be in the right field, but this year, thanks to Jet Couriers, there will be a two level luxury box on the right side of the wall. Homeruns will not only need the distance, but also the height to clear that big blue boy.

The best part about the Aces field is the fact that there isn't a bad seat. Fans will be able to see a high level of baseball up-close and personal, which is hard to find anywhere in the world.

It is all coming together! The field will have machines and people working on it all week to make sure it is in perfect condition for opening day November 11th. The Aces have set up a camera to catch the entire transformation and will be posting the video once the field is done!
