The Sydney Blue Sox have received a double dose of good news with the announcement that pitcher David Welch and outfielder Boss Moanaroa have won the 'Fielders Choice' Australian Baseball League Players of the Week awards.

Welch started on the mound for Sydney in their 5-0 Game 2 victory over the Adelaide 'ETSA' Bite, and proceeded to pitch nine complete innings while conceding no runs and just two hits while striking out seven batters.

The victory improved Welch's record to three wins and no losses, and the Sydney-born left hander sits in second place in the overall pitcher's rankings with an ERA of just 1.09.

Welch has been in outstanding form over extended stints, in his sixteen previous innings spread over two games he allowed just two runs while striking out 12 batters.

Welch's team-mate Boss Moanaroa was also in eye-catching form against the Bite, tallying five hits, which included one home run and two doubles, while bringing home four RBI's.

Moanaroa averaged an outstanding .385 for the series, and overall this season averages .283 with 17 hits, four home runs and seven RBI's.

The Blue Sox split their most recent series in Adelaide 2-2, and have regained second place on the ABL Standings with 13 wins and 10 losses, while the Bite are just one place behind with 11 wins and 10 losses.

The ABL Players of Week are proudly presented by Fielders Choice, one of Australia's leading retailers of baseball equipment, and an official retail partner of the 'Alcohol Think Again' Perth Heat and Brisbane Bandits.
