Sydney's David Welch and Perth's Allan de San Miguel have been rewarded for their outstanding performances in Round 3 by being named the 'Fielders Choice' Australian Baseball League Players of the Week.

Welch won the pitching award after helping Sydney defeat the Brisbane Bandits 3-1 on Saturday behind six scoreless innings that included eight strikeouts and no walks.

It was Welch's first win of the season, and he claimed the prize ahead of team-mates Chris Oxspring and Vaughan Harris, Adelaide's Dushan Ruzic, Perth's Daniel Schmidt, and Brisbane's Chris Mowday.

De San Miguel won the batting award after scorching Adelaide in Round 3 to the tune of eight hits from 15 at bats, three home runs and five RBI's to average an outstanding .533 for the series.

The talented catcher has been in outstanding form for the 'Alcohol Think Again' Perth Heat this season, averaging .324 to be ranked eighth overall in the ABL in terms of average. De San Miguel won the award ahead of Adelaide trio James McOwen, Quincy Latimore and Jeremy Cresswell, and Melbourne's Scott Wearne.

The ABL Players of Week are proudly presented by Fielders Choice, one of Australia's leading retailers of baseball equipment, and an official retail partner of the 'Alcohol Think Again' Perth Heat and Brisbane Bandits.

Round 4 of the Australian Baseball League commences on Thursday with the 'Alcohol Think Again' Perth Heat hosting the Brisbane Bandits, while the Canberra Cavalry are at home to the Adelaide 'ETSA' Bite. The Sydney Blue Sox and the Melbourne Aces play Game 1 of their series on Friday.
