Australian Baseball League

Melbourne Aces Volunteer Positions

The Australian Baseball League (ABL) is Australia's national professional baseball competition, and will launch its sixth season in 2015/16.

A landmark partnership between Major League Baseball, Baseball Australia and the Australian Sports Commission, the ABL features a 48-game season and aims to provide fun, safe entertainment for the entire family at great value by becoming the most accessible sporting code in Australia. The league's six teams are the Adelaide Bite, Brisbane Bandits, Canberra Cavalry, Melbourne Aces, Perth Heat, and Sydney Blue Sox.

Australia has produced over 350 players who have signed contracts with MLB clubs. In addition MLB sends some of their most valuable non-Australian prospects to the ABL with the aim of enhancing their performance and increasing their chances of making it to the show. Along with MLB, the ABL has on-going partnerships with Asia's premier baseball leagues such as Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and the Korean Baseball Organisation (KBO), bringing top Asian talent to the ABL as well.

The ABL has grown and developed quickly off the field as well in the first four seasons. The league now boosts ESPN TV coverage for the ABL All-Star Game and ABL Championship Series that reaches millions around the world in over 50 countries.

The Volunteer Position - Melbourne Aces

Australian Baseball Team Volunteer positions are designed to provide highly motivated individuals interested in a career in baseball with a unique opportunity to learn about the diverse business operations of the Australian Baseball League. These candidates selected will gain invaluable hands on work experience at a level of responsibility only available in a small organization. They will tackle challenging project assignments and have exposure to Major League Baseball, top-level ABL league and team staff, players, local media, and occasionally government officials.

We are a small team operating in a start-up environment. We are looking for energetic, smart, driven people who are passionate about baseball and who want to contribute to the growth of the sport internationally. We need team players who are willing to take on whatever is thrown their way, pitch in, get things done, while sometimes getting a little dirty along the way.

To determine whether an ABL volunteer position is right for you, you should be able to answer the following questions in the positive:

  • Are you passionate about a career in baseball?
  • Are you ok being away from home, in particular over the holiday period?
  • Are you a self-starter who can work with little direction if necessary?
  • Can you commit for a minimum of 7 months? (longer commitment required for certain roles)
  • Are you prepared to work at your team's ballpark, even holidays, weekends and nights?
  • Would you wear a mascot costume to distribute flyers if needed?
  • Are you comfortable making cold sales calls?
  • Are you excited to assist with phone ticket sales pushes?
  • Would you be willing to work most weekends and public holidays leading up to and during the 4 month season?
  • Are you prepared to help move and pack merchandise, baseball equipment, etc?

If yes to ALL of these, then an ABL volunteer role might be for you…
